With the new iPhone 6S and 6S plus, there’s a lot of talk about the change in pricing for the phone as well. For those of us facing either an iPhone repair on our old model, or looking at an upgrade, there’s a lot to consider.

Fortunately, the folks at Mashable just put together the ultimate buying guide for those looking at the new phone without a contract through Apple, or with the 4 major mobile carriers: Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, and AT&T.

Buying through Apple allows you to use a lease-to-own plan, with the opportunity to upgrade your phone in 12 months. The other carriers offer their own deals and promotions, but to really determine the cost-benefit of each carrier, you’ll have to do your own math. In sum, AT&T offers new customers a subsidized phone with a 2-year contract, and payment plans for current customers. Sprint offers two programs, the iPhone Forever plan and Easy Pay. T-Mobile also has some promotional deals for its current customers. Without a current 2-year contract with Verizon for a subsidized phone, the carrier provides a 2-year payment plan that’s the total value of the phone divided by 24.

Overall, upgrading or getting a phone repair really depends on the type of service you already have, whether or not you have Apple Care, and how badly you want or need the upgraded features. However, after looking at the sticker price of the 6S and 6S Plus, you might want to consider keeping your old buddy around, especially if it just needs a quick fix. Let us know what you think!
